AVERT Responds to ASIO’s Increased Threat Level

Following ASIO's annoucement on the 5th of August that the terrorist threat to Australia is now "probable," there has been significant discussion about the implications for national security and public safety. Experts note that while there is no immediate threat, the heightened alert level calls for vigilance and preparedness. This shift reflects broader global security trends and emphasises the need for community awareness.

AVERT Members attend the public hearing for the parliamentary inquiry into right-wing extremist movements in Australia

On 17 June 2024, the authors of the AVERT submission to the Senate Legal and Constitutional Affairs Committee inquiry into right-wing extremist movements in Australia gave evidence at the public hearing to further assist in the inquiry.

The public hearing provided an opportunity for AVERT Members to respond to questions from the committee, and to share their expertise on right-wing movements in Australia.

AVERT Engagement with the International Academic Partnerships for Science and Security (IAPSS)

In March 2024, the AVERT Research Network took part in the inaugural conference of the International Academic Partnerships for Science and Security (IAPSS). IAPSS is an international initiative, funded by the US Department of Homeland Security and co-led by the US-based National Counterterrorism Innovation, Technology, and Education Center (NCITE) and the UK-based Centre for Research and Evidence on Security Threats (CREST). The objective of IAPSS is to facilitate knowledge sharing and collaboration between research networks among the Five Eyes plus, with a focus on preventing and countering violent extremism and terrorism.
